History and Ownership[edit]

Arsenal was founded in 1886 by workers at the Royal Arsenal munitions factory in Woolwich and was originally known as Dial Square.[2] The club moved to North London in 1913. For many years, the club was controlled by descendants of the Bracewell-Smith and Hill-Wood families. Since 2018, it has been fully owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE), an American company owned by Stan Kroenke.[3]

Chelsea was founded in 1905 by Gus Mears, who had acquired the Stamford Bridge athletics stadium with the aim of hosting football matches on the site. The club has played at Stamford Bridge for its entire history. Chelsea's modern era has been defined by two significant ownership changes. In 2003, the club was purchased by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, whose investment led to a period of substantial success. Following sanctions placed on Abramovich, the club was sold in 2022 to a consortium named BlueCo, led by American investor Todd Boehly and the private equity firm Clearlake Capital.[4]

Major Honors[edit]

Arsenal has a long history of domestic success, holding the record for the most FA Cup victories with 14. The club has won 13 league titles, with a notable achievement being their undefeated Premier League season in 2003–04. In European competitions, Arsenal has won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1970 and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1994.

Chelsea'[5]s trophy cabinet features a greater number of European titles. The club has won the UEFA Champions League twice, in 2012 and 2021, making them the only London club to have won the competition. They have also won the UEFA Europa League twice and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup twice. Domestically, Chelsea has won six league titles, eight FA Cups, and five League Cups.
