Difference between Making and Modeling a Car

When planning to purchase a car or availing a premium on auto insurance, someone might ask you relevant details like the make and model. It’s not uncommon even for car owners to be confused about the difference between make and model. How exactly are the two terms different?

The make is used to refer to the company that contributed to the composition of the car itself. This includes processes such as acquiring and putting the car’s parts together. In short, the make refers to the manufacturer. Suzuki, Toyota, and Honda are examples of the make of a car.

On the other hand, the model of the car is the specific product of the car. It can be a name, initial, number, or a combination of numbers and initials to help identify a car. A single manufacturer releases different kinds of cars. Thus, having a name or model for each can help distinguish them. One can also define the model of a car as the distinct shape or design made by a company to make it unique from its other cars. Examples of car models are Prius, Beetle, and Mustang.
